Rani Mukerji opened up about the profound significance of receiving her first National Award alongside Shah Rukh Khan at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony held on September 23. While Shah Rukh was honoured with the Best Actor award (shared with Vikrant Massey) for his powerhouse performance in Jawan, Rani clinched the Best Actress trophy for her gripping portrayal in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. The moment stood out not just for the recognition, but because it was shared with someone who has been part of her journey since the beginning.
In a candid conversation with Zoom, Rani reflected on a viral photo from the event showing her and SRK adjusting each other’s medals. She likened the experience to lifelong friends achieving a milestone together. “When you’ve travelled alongside your friends from a young age—through school, college, and supporting each other in life—achieving something together on a platform like that becomes incredibly meaningful,” she said. Rani emphasized how special it felt to celebrate with someone who has witnessed and contributed to her growth in the industry.
Rani also spoke warmly about her long-standing admiration for Shah Rukh. “I’ve absorbed so much from him—both as a professional and as a person,” she shared. Highlighting their enduring passion for cinema, she noted that SRK has been in the industry for 35 years and she for 30, yet their drive to excel in every film remains unchanged. “Winning that day felt even more significant because of our shared history and mutual respect,” she added.
