Vijay Sethupathi’s Tamil film Baththa recorded a 15.9% increase in India net box office collections on its ninth day in theatres, recovering from a weekday slowdown as it entered its second weekend. The film earned Rs 1.60 crore in net collections on Friday, taking its total India net earnings to Rs 17.06 crore. Its cumulative India gross collection has reached Rs 19.75 crore, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The rise offers the film an opportunity to build momentum over the weekend, although its performance over the coming days will determine how well it sustains its theatrical run.
The film also recorded 1,35,160 footfalls on Day 9, bringing its total audience turnout to 14,27,857 after nine days in cinemas. Baththa opened with Rs 1.50 crore on October 1 before collections rose to Rs 2.70 crore on its second day. It continued to gain during the opening weekend, collecting Rs 2.75 crore on Day 3 and reaching its highest single-day collection of Rs 3.10 crore on Day 4. These initial gains established its early box office trajectory before collections began to moderate during the following weekdays.
After reaching its Day 4 peak, the film experienced a decline in daily earnings. It collected Rs 1.30 crore on Day 5, followed by Rs 1.40 crore on Day 6 and Rs 1.33 crore on Day 7. Collections edged up to Rs 1.38 crore on Day 8, taking its first-week total to Rs 15.46 crore. Friday’s earnings of Rs 1.60 crore represented a further improvement over the previous day, suggesting a modest recovery as the film moved into its second weekend. The coming days will be important in assessing whether the upward movement can continue.

Baththa is a Tamil action comedy-drama set in Madras in 1986. Vijay Sethupathi plays Baththa, a feared local gangster whose violent lifestyle has created distance between him and his family. His circumstances change unexpectedly when an eight-year-old boy named Sabari, played by Sai Prithvi Raj, accidentally locks him inside a restroom in an abandoned school. Cut off from his usual sources of power, weapons and support, Baththa must confront hunger and isolation. His unexpected interaction with the child gradually develops into a friendship that challenges his outlook and encourages him to reconnect with his family.
Lijomol Jose plays Kannima, Baththa’s wife, while the supporting cast includes Ajay Ghosh, Arjun Chidambaram, Sahasra Shree, Hari Krishnan, Santhy Balachandran and Vishnu Govindhan. The film is written and directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, marking his third collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi after Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakaathi. The director’s latest project combines a period setting with a story centred on a gangster’s unexpected relationship with a child and the personal changes that follow.
Sai Abhyankkar has composed the music for Baththa, with Selvakumar S. K. handling cinematography and R. Kalaivanan serving as editor. The film’s box office performance has fluctuated since its opening, with a strong early weekend followed by lower weekday collections and a gradual uptick on Days 8 and 9. Its India net total of Rs 17.06 crore and gross earnings of Rs 19.75 crore provide the current measure of its theatrical performance. With the second weekend underway, the film’s next set of daily collections will indicate whether the Friday recovery translates into stronger audience interest or remains a limited rise after the weekday dip.
