The iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers a premium smartphone experience with powerful performance, an upgraded camera system, improved cooling and enhanced artificial intelligence features. However, the latest model builds largely on the foundation of its predecessor, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, rather than introducing a complete redesign. Its combination of hardware, cameras and software makes it a strong all-round device, although its 249-gram weight, Face ID performance in low light and price of Rs 1,79,900 remain notable drawbacks.
The phone retains a design similar to last year's model, with a slightly smaller Dynamic Island and camera lenses that protrude marginally further from the rear. Apple has moved the infrared component used for Face ID beneath the display, while a larger vapour cooling chamber and bigger battery contribute to the increased weight. The device features a 6.9-inch display, an aluminium frame, a matte-finish back and Ceramic Shield 2 protection. It is available in Burgundy, Glacier, Silver and Black finishes, with the Glacier and Burgundy variants highlighted as particularly appealing options.
Performance is one of the phone's biggest strengths, thanks to Apple's A20 Pro chip, which uses a 2-nanometre manufacturing process. Apple says the processor offers 50% more memory bandwidth, 40% faster graphics cores and twice the performance in AI workloads compared with its predecessor. In everyday use, the phone handles demanding applications, games, animations and video recording smoothly. The larger cooling chamber also helps manage heat during extended use. Its bright display, powerful speakers, IP68 water and dust resistance and strong Wi-Fi performance further contribute to the experience. The updated Siri and AI-powered photo-editing tools are more responsive, although the reviewer believes smartphone AI still needs to become more convenient and intuitive.

The camera system receives significant improvements, led by a new 48-megapixel main sensor and a mechanical variable-aperture lens that can switch between f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4. The rear setup also includes a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 48-megapixel telephoto camera offering 4x optical zoom and 8x optical-quality zoom. An 18-megapixel front camera handles selfies. According to the review, the cameras deliver improved colour accuracy, dynamic range, detail and low-light performance compared with the previous generation. The variable aperture offers greater creative control, while additional Pro controls and film simulations cater to photography enthusiasts. Video recording remains another major strength, particularly for users who need high-quality footage without carrying a dedicated camera.
Battery capacity has increased to approximately 5,391mAh in India, around 500mAh more than the previous model. The phone can reportedly reach about 50% charge in 15 minutes with a compatible 60W charger and complete charging in roughly 70 minutes. Despite the larger battery, the reviewer found battery life broadly similar to the previous generation, lasting approximately 18–20 hours and requiring daily charging. Face ID is another area where the upgrade is less convincing: although it remains fast overall, recognition reportedly fails more frequently in low-light conditions after the infrared components were moved beneath the display. These limitations do not substantially undermine the phone's overall performance, but they show that the improvements are not universal.
At Rs 1,79,900, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is an expensive purchase, even as rising component costs put pressure on smartphone prices across the market. The review concludes that its combination of performance, cameras, display, battery and software makes it one of the most complete flagship smartphones available. Buyers upgrading from an iPhone 17 Pro Max may find the changes relatively incremental, while users seeking a powerful all-round device could benefit more from the improvements. The large size and weight may also make the standard iPhone 18 Pro a more suitable alternative for those who prefer a smaller handset. Overall, the iPhone 18 Pro Max earns an 8.5 out of 10 in the review, with its high price and physical heft offset by its strong hardware and versatile camera system.
