A Reddit user has gone viral after showcasing a homemade AI-powered system designed to keep pigeons away from a balcony using automated water sprays. The unusual project has captured widespread attention online, with many social media users expressing surprise at how artificial intelligence is now being used to solve simple day-to-day household problems in highly creative ways.
According to the viral Reddit post, the creator built the system after repeatedly facing issues with pigeons nesting on his balcony. Instead of relying on conventional bird deterrents such as spikes, nets, or noise devices, he decided to create a fully automated setup capable of detecting birds in real time and responding without human involvement.
The system reportedly uses a USB camera connected to an Orange Pi 5 computer, which continuously monitors the balcony area through live video footage. An AI-powered vision model known as YOLO World V2 is used to identify pigeons specifically, allowing the system to distinguish birds from other moving objects and trigger action only when pigeons appear in view.

Once a pigeon is detected, a mounted water gun connected to servo motors automatically rotates toward the bird and sprays water to scare it away. The entire process operates in real time, creating what many online users described as a futuristic example of AI entering ordinary household life in unexpected ways.
The viral clip and accompanying explanation quickly spread across social media platforms, where users reacted with a mix of amusement, admiration, and concern over how advanced personal AI projects are becoming. Many praised the creator for using technology creatively and harmlessly, while others joked that artificial intelligence was now handling “balcony security” and pest control.
The incident has also sparked broader conversations online about the growing accessibility of AI tools and automation technology. With affordable hardware and open-source AI models becoming widely available, hobbyists and tech enthusiasts are increasingly building custom systems for everyday tasks ranging from home monitoring to automated cleaning and now even pigeon prevention.
