The 10th Spice Coast Marathon in Kochi witnessed an adorable milestone on Sunday as 10-month-old twins Samyukta and Akshara made their marathon debut in the 5-km ‘Run for Fun’ category. Believed to be the youngest participants in the event’s decade-long history, the infants were gently pushed in a stroller by their parents, Captain Anshul Sharon of Air India Express and Priyadarshani, completing the course as a full family team.
“We participated because it’s the 10th edition and our children are 10 months old,” said Priyadarshani, a seasoned marathoner and ultracyclist who secured first runner-up in the 42-km full marathon at the same event in 2023. “Anshul and I are both marathoners, and this was a perfect family celebration,” she added. The twins’ grandfather, Rajbir, an accomplished long-distance runner and cyclist, also joined the group, turning the run into a multi-generational affair.
The sight of the tiny twins—dressed in matching outfits and waving from their stroller—drew cheers from fellow participants and spectators. The family crossed the finish line together, marking not just a personal milestone but a heartwarming moment that embodied the marathon’s inclusive, community-driven spirit.

Organizers hailed the participation as a symbol of fitness across generations. “From 10-month-olds to grandparents, the Spice Coast Marathon is truly for everyone,” a spokesperson said. The event featured multiple categories, including full, half, and 10-km races, but the ‘Run for Fun’ segment—designed for families and casual runners—stole the show with the twins’ debut.
As Kochi celebrated a decade of the marathon, Samyukta and Akshara’s joyful journey in their stroller became the perfect tribute—proving that the love for running starts early, and family makes every step count.
