In a dazzling display of leadership and batting prowess, Indian cricket team captain Shubman Gill has been named the ICC Player of the Month for July 2025, following an extraordinary performance in the recently concluded five-Test series against England. The 25-year-old skipper, who led a young Indian side without stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, amassed an impressive 754 runs, including four centuries, to guide India to a 2-2 series draw.
Gill’s standout achievement was his staggering 430 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, where he scored 269 and 161, marking the second-highest aggregate in a single Test match in cricket history. This monumental effort not only leveled the series at 1-1 but also earned him a permanent place in the hearts of cricket fans. Reflecting on the milestone, Gill stated, “The double ton in Birmingham is something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England.”
The Indian captain’s exceptional form saw him outshine England’s Ben Stokes and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder for the prestigious ICC award, making him the first male cricketer to claim the Player of the Month title four times, with previous wins in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025. Gill’s 567 runs in the three Tests played in July, at an average of 94.50, underscored his dominance, with a crucial 103 in the second innings of the fourth Test in Manchester helping India secure a draw and keep the series alive.

Expressing gratitude, Gill remarked, “It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This award holds special significance as it recognizes my performances in my first Test series as captain. I thank my teammates for their support and look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead.”
On the women’s side, England batter Sophia Dunkley was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month, surpassing teammate Sophie Ecclestone and Ireland’s Gaby Lewis. Dunkley’s 270 runs across three ODIs and four T20Is against India, including a standout 83 off 92 balls in the first ODI in Southampton, highlighted her pivotal role in England’s campaign.
As Gill prepares for upcoming challenges, his leadership and batting heroics signal a bright future for Indian cricket, with the young captain poised to add more laurels to his illustrious career.
