Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh has broken his silence over the assault allegations levelled against him and his father by a family cook, claiming that a "false FIR" was filed in an attempt to extort money and damage his reputation. In a detailed social media post shared on Sunday, the batter said he had remained silent until now because the matter was under investigation but decided to present his side after facing widespread criticism online.
The controversy began last month when Ratibad Police in Bhopal registered a case against Shashank Singh and his father, retired Special Director General (DG) of Police Shailesh Singh. The complaint was filed by a cook employed at their residence, who alleged that he was assaulted, verbally abused and had his mobile phone forcibly taken away. Following the registration of the case, the allegations drew significant public attention and sparked widespread discussion on social media.
Responding to the accusations, Shashank Singh maintained that the FIR was baseless and described it as a deliberate attempt to extort his family by exploiting his public profile as a professional cricketer. He alleged that the complainant had never entered their home with honest intentions and claimed that the legal complaint was intended to tarnish both his and his family's reputation. "Thousands abused me without knowing the truth," Shashank wrote, expressing disappointment over the online backlash he received before the facts of the case were established.

The Punjab Kings batter further said he had chosen not to react immediately out of respect for the legal process. According to him, remaining silent was not an admission of guilt but a conscious decision to allow the investigation to proceed without interference. He stressed that he believes the truth will emerge through due process and urged people not to rush to conclusions based solely on allegations circulating online.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not announced any final findings or conclusions regarding the allegations. At this stage, the claims made by the complainant and the counterclaims made by Shashank Singh have not been judicially established. The legal proceedings are expected to determine the facts based on the evidence presented by both sides.
Shashank Singh, who has established himself as a key player in the Indian Premier League with Punjab Kings, said the episode had deeply affected him and his family. While reiterating his faith in the justice system, he appealed to the public to avoid passing judgment before the investigation is complete, emphasizing that allegations alone should not be treated as proof of wrongdoing.
