India's boxing contingent continued its strong campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Sakshi Chaudhary and Arundhati Choudhary advanced to the semi-finals of their respective events on Wednesday, guaranteeing the country at least two more medals. With their victories, India's assured medal tally at the Games rose to 18, underlining another successful day for the nation's athletes in Glasgow.
Competing in the women's 51kg category, Sakshi Chaudhary produced a dominant performance to defeat Caitlin Fryers of Northern Ireland by a unanimous 5-0 decision. The Indian boxer controlled the contest from the outset with disciplined footwork, accurate punching and consistent pressure, leaving little opportunity for her opponent to make an impact. The convincing win secured Sakshi a place in the semi-finals and guaranteed her at least a bronze medal.
In the women's 70kg division, Arundhati Choudhary faced a much tougher challenge against Morgan Henderson of New Zealand. The closely fought bout saw both boxers exchange strong combinations before the Indian edged ahead to claim a 3-1 split decision victory. Arundhati's resilience and composure in the decisive rounds proved crucial as she booked her place in the last four and ensured another medal for India.

Sakshi's triumph made her the fifth Indian boxer to secure a podium finish at the Glasgow Games, joining Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Jadumani Singh (55kg), all of whom had earlier confirmed medals by reaching the semi-finals. Under Commonwealth Games boxing rules, losing semi-finalists receive bronze medals, meaning every boxer who reaches the last four is guaranteed a place on the podium.
India's boxers have been among the country's standout performers throughout the Games, delivering a series of impressive performances across multiple weight categories. The strong showing reflects the depth of India's boxing programme, with both experienced names and emerging talent progressing deep into the competition and keeping the country in contention for multiple gold medals.
With the semi-final bouts still to come, Sakshi and Arundhati will now aim to convert their assured bronze medals into silver or gold. Their progress further strengthens India's overall campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026, where the contingent continues to add to its medal tally across a range of sporting disciplines.
