Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly Mann Ki Baat broadcast, lauded the return of astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla from space, igniting national pride and a surge of curiosity about space among India’s youth. Highlighting the booming space sector, Modi revealed that over 200 startups have emerged in this field alone, a leap from fewer than 50 five years ago.
“The safe return of Shubhanshu Shukla filled the country with joy and pride,” Modi said, noting the growing enthusiasm for space exploration among children. He emphasized that self-reliance and ‘vocal for local’ are key to achieving Viksit Bharat, with the space sector exemplifying India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Modi also announced that National Space Day on August 23 will celebrate India’s space achievements, inviting public suggestions for its observance. He praised India’s youth for excelling in global Olympiads, from Chemistry to Mathematics, showcasing the nation’s intellectual prowess.

Additionally, Modi celebrated the UNESCO World Heritage designation of 12 Maratha forts, symbols of India’s valor and vision. The Prime Minister’s address underscored India’s strides in innovation, heritage, and self-reliance, positioning the country as a global leader in space and beyond.
