Indian boxer Minakshi advanced to the quarter-finals of the Boxing World Cup (Stage 2) in the women’s 51kg category on Thursday after a commanding performance in Guiyang, China. The reigning world champion in the 48kg division continued her strong run as India maintained a solid presence across multiple weight categories in the competition. Her victory added to India’s growing list of contenders still in medal contention at the tournament.
Minakshi produced a dominant display in her bout against Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska, securing a clear 5-0 unanimous decision from the judges. The win also marked her successful transition into the Olympic 51kg weight class, where she is competing as she shifts up from her earlier 48kg division. Known for her sharp technique and control in the ring, Minakshi once again demonstrated her consistency at the international level with a composed and disciplined performance.
In other Indian results on Day 4, Abhinash Jamwal (65kg) exited the competition after a 0-5 defeat against Kyrgyzstan’s Mirzokhid Imamnazarov. Despite the setback, India still has multiple boxers progressing deep into the tournament. So far, five Indian athletes have reached the quarter-finals, while Jyoti (48kg) and Jugnoo (85kg) have already secured medals by advancing to the semi-final stage, strengthening India’s overall campaign.
