The Indian Open Athletics, hosted by the Maharashtra Athletics Association, will take place on July 12, 2025, at Savitribai Phule University, featuring around 350 athletes from across India. Maharashtra leads with 95 participants, followed by the Indian Army with 28, alongside teams from CISF, IOCL, JSW, Indian Navy, NCOE Bangalore, NCOE Trivandrum, ONGC, Police Sports Control Board, Railway Sports, Reliance, and SSCB.
The one-day meet will showcase top talent, including TK Vishal, a 400m specialist who secured gold in mixed relay and silver in 4x400m relay at the 2025 Asian Championships in Gumi, South Korea. Other notable competitors include Jay Kumar (400m, Asian Championships 4x400m relay silver), Krishan Kumar (800m and 1500m, 2023 and 2025 Asian Championships medalist), Yoonus Shah, National Games 400m hurdles champion Ruchit Mori, and 110m hurdles bronze medalist Muhammed Lazan.
The event, a qualifier for the National Senior Inter-State Athletics Championships per Athletics Federation of India (AFI) guidelines, was initially set to be organized by the Amateur Sports Institute (ASI) but was taken over by the Maharashtra Athletics Association, which prepared in just three months. The competition underscores Pune’s growing prominence as a sports hub and aims to boost athletes’ readiness for national and international stages.
