The FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout stage has entered its decisive phase, with eight teams competing not only for football’s biggest trophy but also for a share of the tournament’s record prize pool. As the quarter-finals begin, every remaining team has already secured a multi-million-dollar payout, with the financial rewards increasing significantly with each victory.
Each of the eight quarter-finalists has guaranteed at least $19 million in prize money. Teams eliminated at this stage will take home the same amount, while those progressing to the semi-finals will compete for much larger payouts. The quarter-final winners are assured of earning a minimum of $27 million, regardless of their results in the remaining matches.
The quarter-final fixtures begin with France facing Morocco in Boston, followed by Spain taking on Belgium in Los Angeles. The other two quarter-final matches will see Norway meet England in Miami, while Argentina will face Switzerland in Kansas City. The winners of these encounters will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for July 14 and 15.

The teams finishing fourth at the tournament will receive $27 million, while the third-place finishers will earn $29 million after winning the bronze medal match. The runners-up will receive $33 million, while the eventual champions will claim a record $50 million prize, the highest winner’s payout in FIFA World Cup history.
The expanded 48-team tournament features a total prize pool of $871 million, ensuring financial rewards for all participating nations. Teams eliminated during the group stage will receive $9 million, while those exiting in the Round of 32 and Round of 16 will earn $11 million and $15 million respectively.
The prize money has become an important source of revenue for national football associations, helping support grassroots programmes, youth development, infrastructure projects and future tournament preparations. With the competition moving towards its final stages, every knockout match carries both sporting importance and significant financial consequences.
