India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has identified Shivam Dube’s late boundaries as the turning point in India’s five-wicket win over West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash at Eden Gardens. While Sanju Samson’s 97-run knock headlined the chase, Bumrah said the two fours struck by Dube in the 19th over were the moments that truly shifted the pressure in India’s favour during the tense pursuit of 196.
Reacting to a question about his favourite moment from the match, Bumrah said Dube’s back-to-back boundaries released the mounting tension in the dugout. He remarked that such contributions often go unnoticed by casual observers but are deeply valued by those who understand the game’s nuances. According to him, needing eight or nine runs in the final over can quickly become complicated, and Dube’s timely strokeplay ensured that India entered the last over with greater control.
Earlier in the match, West Indies posted a formidable 195 for 4 after opting to bat, powered by contributions from Roston Chase, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, along with an unbeaten partnership between Jason Holder and Rovman Powell. Bumrah led India’s bowling effort, returning figures of 2 for 36 in his four overs. He explained that the pitch was holding up, prompting the bowlers to rely on variations and change of pace rather than outright speed to restrict scoring.

In response, India recovered from an early setback through a series of steady partnerships. Samson anchored the chase with a fluent 97, stitching crucial stands with Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma to keep the required rate in check. The wicketkeeper-batter’s innings formed the backbone of the chase, guiding India to victory in what was effectively a must-win encounter to secure a semifinal berth.
Bumrah also expressed satisfaction over Samson’s performance, noting that the batter had endured an inconsistent run in recent weeks. He said maintaining a positive mindset can be challenging for players who move in and out of the side, but Samson displayed clarity and conviction at the crease. The pacer described the knock as a “top” effort and hoped it would mark the beginning of a sustained run of form.
With the win, India advanced to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026 and are now set to face England at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. The victory at Eden Gardens not only highlighted Samson’s headline-making innings but also underscored the significance of smaller, decisive contributions that often shape the outcome of high-pressure tournament matches.
