Former India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has returned to the Knight Riders franchise after stepping down from his role with the Indian men's cricket team. The former Netherlands international has been appointed Head of Cricket Strategy at Knight Riders Sports, where he will oversee cricket operations, talent identification and long-term planning across the group's global franchises. The appointment comes just a day after his departure from the Indian team's coaching setup under head coach Gautam Gambhir.
According to Knight Riders Sports, Ten Doeschate will lead the organisation's strategic initiatives in scouting, player recruitment, squad planning and performance evaluation. He will also work closely with coaching staff across the franchise network to establish a consistent cricketing philosophy. In addition to his strategic responsibilities, he will serve as Assistant Coach for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 and Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket (MLC).
Knight Riders Sports CEO Venky Mysore welcomed Ten Doeschate's return, describing him as someone who understands the franchise's culture and long-term vision. Mysore said the former all-rounder's experience in both international cricket and franchise leagues makes him well suited to guide the next phase of development across the Knight Riders ecosystem and strengthen its global cricket operations.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the new role, Ten Doeschate said he was excited to rejoin the Knight Riders family and contribute to strengthening scouting, player development and analytical systems across the franchise network. He described the position as a unique opportunity to collaborate with coaching and analytics teams while building a sustainable long-term cricket strategy for all Knight Riders teams.
Ten Doeschate has a long association with the Kolkata Knight Riders. He first joined the franchise as a player in 2011 and was part of the squads that won the Indian Premier League (IPL) titles in 2012 and 2014. After retiring from playing, he returned as part of the coaching staff in 2022 and played a role in KKR's successful 2024 IPL title-winning campaign.
His appointment reflects Knight Riders Sports' continued emphasis on creating an integrated cricket structure across its global franchises. By placing an experienced coach and strategist in charge of talent development and recruitment, the organisation aims to strengthen player pathways and maintain a consistent approach to team building across competitions in India, the Caribbean, the UAE and the United States.
