The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 season is set to begin on March 26, marking the 11th edition of the tournament with a significant expansion from six to eight teams. The latest edition introduces two new franchises—Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz—bringing the total number of matches to 44. Defending champions Lahore Qalandars will open the tournament against Hyderabad Kingsmen in the season opener.
The tournament will be held across two venues in Pakistan—Gaddafi Stadium and National Bank Stadium—a reduction from the six venues originally planned. The final is scheduled to take place on May 3, concluding a tightly packed schedule. Despite the expansion in teams, organisers have opted for a revised format instead of a traditional double round-robin system.
Under the new structure, the eight teams have been divided into two groups of four. Each team will play the others within its group twice, while facing teams from the other group once during the league stage. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs, which will follow a format similar to the Indian Premier League, including qualifiers and eliminators leading up to the final.

In a major setback for fans, the Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that the tournament will initially be conducted behind closed doors due to the ongoing crisis in the Gulf region. However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has indicated that spectators may be allowed in later stages depending on the situation. Additionally, the tournament will not be broadcast or streamed live in India, limiting viewership for fans across the border.
The squads for all eight teams feature a mix of international and domestic stars. Key players to watch include Shaheen Shah Afridi leading Lahore Qalandars, Babar Azam captaining Peshawar Zalmi, and David Warner heading Karachi Kings. Other notable names include Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, and Mohammad Rizwan, highlighting the league’s growing international appeal.
The league stage will run through April with matches scheduled almost daily, followed by playoffs beginning April 28. The schedule includes key fixtures such as Lahore Qalandars vs Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators, which are expected to draw significant attention. Notably, PSL 2026 will overlap with IPL 2026, starting just two days earlier, setting up a direct clash between the two major T20 leagues in the cricket calendar.
