Kieron Pollard has been reprimanded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and fined 15% of his match fee after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the Indian Premier League’s Code of Conduct during the Mumbai Indians’s match against the Punjab Kings.
According to the IPL’s official statement, Pollard used “audible obscenities” directed at the fourth umpire during the 19th over of the second innings in the high-pressure encounter. The incident reportedly occurred as tensions rose on the Mumbai Indians’ sidelines during the final phase of Punjab Kings’ innings and Mumbai’s subsequent chase of a 201-run target.
The IPL Governing Council charged Pollard under Article 2.3 of its Code of Conduct, which pertains to the use of offensive or abusive language audible to match officials or others during a game. Following the review, he accepted the charge and the sanction imposed by the match referee, which included a financial penalty and one demerit point.

Despite the disciplinary action against their coach, the Mumbai Indians went on to win the match in a thrilling finish. The chase was anchored by a standout innings from Tilak Varma, who scored a rapid 75 off 33 balls. His innings, featuring powerful stroke play and key partnerships, helped MI recover momentum during a tense run chase under pressure.
He was supported by contributions from teammates, including Sherfane Rutherford and Will Jacks, as Mumbai Indians successfully overhauled the target with strong finishing overs. The win marked their fourth victory of the season, but attention was partially diverted to the sidelines incident involving Pollard.
The match also highlighted the intense emotions surrounding IPL fixtures, where high-stakes moments often lead to confrontations involving players, coaches, and officials.
