The IPL 2026 points table witnessed another shift in momentum after Gujarat Titans secured a thrilling last-over four-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Despite the defeat, Punjab Kings retained their position at the top of the table, continuing their strong season run, while Gujarat Titans strengthened their mid-table standing with crucial points from a high-pressure chase.
Gujarat Titans’ successful pursuit of 164 was anchored by a composed 57 from Sai Sudharsan, who once again showcased his ability to anchor challenging chases under pressure. His innings, combined with valuable contributions from Washington Sundar (40 not out) and Jos Buttler (25), helped GT overcome early pressure after losing skipper Shubman Gill cheaply. Sudharsan’s knock ensured stability before Sundar finished the match in style with a scooped six off Marcus Stoinis in the final over.
Earlier, Punjab Kings posted 163 for nine after being rocked early by Gujarat’s pace attack. Mohammed Siraj (2/28) and Jason Holder (4/24) triggered a top-order collapse, reducing PBKS to 47 for five inside nine overs. Kagiso Rabada also played a crucial supporting role, keeping pressure on the batters with his express pace. However, debutant Suryansh Shedge provided a counter-attacking spark that revived the innings briefly.

Shedge’s 57 off 29 balls was the highlight of Punjab’s batting effort, as he combined with Marcus Stoinis (40) to build a 79-run partnership for the sixth wicket. His explosive over against Manav Suthar, where he collected 26 runs, shifted momentum temporarily in Punjab’s favour. However, Rabada’s dismissal of Shedge and Holder’s disciplined bowling ensured that Punjab could not accelerate beyond 163.
In the chase, Gujarat Titans lost Gill early to Arshdeep Singh, but Sudharsan and Buttler rebuilt the innings with a 53-run stand. Buttler’s aggressive strokeplay included two sixes before he fell attempting another big shot. Sudharsan then carried the innings forward, reaching his third half-century of the season before falling late in the chase, setting up a tense finish.
The final stages saw drama unfold as Gujarat required 11 runs in the last over. Rahul Tewatia’s brief involvement added tension, but Washington Sundar’s composure ensured GT crossed the line with three balls remaining. Despite the loss, Punjab Kings maintained their position at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 13 points, while Gujarat Titans climbed to 12 points, remaining fifth but firmly in the playoff race.
The result highlighted the narrow margins in this season’s IPL, where individual brilliance and late-innings composure continue to shape outcomes. Punjab Kings, despite their defeat, remain the team to beat, while Gujarat Titans’ win keeps their campaign alive in a tightly contested points table.
