A dramatic Indian Premier League 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday was overshadowed by a serious injury to Delhi fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who was taken to hospital after collapsing while fielding. An ambulance entered the ground as the South African pacer was stretchered off following what appeared to be a concerning on-field incident, halting play momentarily and leaving players and spectators anxious.
The match had already been high on intensity, with Delhi Capitals setting a massive target of 265 after opting to bat first. Star batter KL Rahul delivered a sensational unbeaten knock of 152 off just 67 balls, striking 16 fours and nine sixes in a record-breaking innings. His effort now stands as the highest individual score by an Indian batter in IPL history, anchoring Delhi’s dominant batting display.
Rahul was well supported by Nitish Rana, who played a blistering innings of 91 off 44 deliveries. The duo combined for a formidable 220-run partnership for the second wicket off just 95 balls, completely dismantling the Punjab Kings bowling attack and setting up a daunting chase for the visitors.

In response, Punjab Kings began strongly with openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya providing a quick start in pursuit of the mammoth total. However, Delhi Capitals fought back into the contest by picking up three crucial wickets, slowing the momentum of the chase and tightening the contest under pressure.
Despite the early breakthroughs for Delhi, Punjab Kings remained in contention as the chase continued to unfold. The match, however, was briefly overshadowed by concern for Ngidi’s condition, with medical staff attending promptly on the field. Updates on his health were awaited as the high-scoring encounter continued under tense circumstances.
