Gujarat Titans (GT) clinched a sensational two-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a nail-biting IPL 2025 encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, chasing down 170 with 13 balls to spare.
Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 73 off 39 balls, studded with five fours and six towering sixes, powered GT to 170/2 in 17.5 overs, overshadowing RCB’s valiant effort of 169/8.
RCB’s innings began shakily after GT opted to bowl. Mohammed Siraj struck early, dismissing Phil Salt (14 off 13) and Devdutt Padikkal (4 off 3), while Arshad Khan removed Virat Kohli (7 off 6). Rajat Patidar’s 12 off 12 fell to Ishant Sharma, leaving RCB at 42/4.
Liam Livingstone’s 54 off 40, with five sixes, and Jitesh Sharma’s 33 off 21 revived the innings, but Sai Kishore’s double strike (2/22) pegged them back. Tim David’s 32 off 18 offered late fireworks, though Siraj (3/19) and Prasidh Krishna (1/26) ensured RCB finished at 169/8, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar unbeaten on 1 off 2.
GT’s chase started cautiously, with Shubman Gill (14 off 14) falling to Kumar. Sai Sudharsan’s 49 off 36, including seven fours, steadied the ship alongside Buttler, who unleashed a barrage of boundaries. Josh Hazlewood dismissed Sudharsan, but Buttler, with Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 30 off 18, sealed the deal. RCB’s bowlers—Hazlewood (1/43) and Kumar (1/23)—struggled to contain GT’s onslaught, while Yash Dayal and Rasikh Salam went wicketless.
Buttler’s match-defining knock, blending aggression and composure, handed GT a statement win. For RCB, Livingstone’s heroics weren’t enough, leaving them to rue early collapses and a lack of bowling bite in this high-octane clash.
