The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly making a significant political push in Tamil Nadu by exploring the possibility of aligning with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the party led by actor-turned-politician Vijay. Reports suggest that the BJP has offered the prospect of a Deputy Chief Minister post to Vijay as part of efforts to build a broader alliance ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The move is being seen as a strategic attempt by the BJP to strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu, a state where regional parties have historically dominated the political landscape. By reaching out to Vijay—who commands a large fan following across the state—the BJP is believed to be aiming to expand its voter base and attract younger supporters.
Vijay officially launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam earlier this year, marking his formal entry into politics after years of speculation. Since its formation, the party has generated significant public interest, with political observers closely watching how it might influence the state’s electoral dynamics.

However, TVK has so far maintained that it intends to pursue an independent political path, focusing on issues such as governance reforms, transparency and youth participation in politics. Party leaders have indicated that any decisions regarding alliances will be taken after consultations within the organisation and with supporters.
The reported offer has also triggered discussions within other political parties in the state, including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), both of which remain major players in Tamil Nadu politics. Analysts say the emergence of TVK and the BJP’s outreach could reshape alliance equations ahead of the elections.
With election season approaching, political parties in Tamil Nadu are intensifying efforts to secure strategic partnerships and broaden their appeal among voters. Whether Vijay and his party will accept or reject the reported offer remains unclear, but the development has already added a new dimension to the state’s evolving political contest.
