Delhi Capitals are still awaiting clarity on the return of star pacer Mitchell Starc for the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026, with team officials confirming there is no confirmed timeline for his arrival. The update comes ahead of their fixture against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Bowling coach Munaf Patel stated that the decision regarding Starc’s participation will depend on medical advice from Cricket Australia. He said the franchise is in regular contact with Australian team doctors and physios, who will determine when the left-arm pacer is fit to return. As of now, no official update has been provided on his recovery timeline.
Starc had earlier confirmed that he would miss the initial phase of the tournament due to injury concerns. The 36-year-old last featured in competitive cricket during the Ashes series against England, followed by a brief stint in the Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixers. Since then, he has been sidelined for nearly three months while recovering.

Despite his absence, Delhi Capitals have started their campaign strongly under captain Axar Patel, registering wins in their opening matches. However, Munaf Patel emphasised Starc’s importance, calling him one of the finest bowlers in the world. He noted that only Jasprit Bumrah could be compared to Starc in terms of impact in the IPL.
Patel added that while the team’s current form has reduced immediate pressure, Starc’s experience and ability with the new ball remain invaluable. He highlighted that the management is closely monitoring his progress and maintaining communication regarding his availability. The franchise is hopeful that the veteran pacer will join the squad once fully fit.
With Delhi Capitals currently placed among the top teams in the standings, Starc’s eventual return could further strengthen their bowling attack. His presence is expected to play a crucial role as the tournament progresses and competition intensifies in the later stages of the IPL season.
