India’s young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has offered a candid glimpse into Rohit Sharma’s distinctive leadership style, revealing that the former captain’s playful scoldings often come with a surprising dose of affection. Speaking at the Agenda Aaj Tak conclave, Jaiswal said that when Rohit refrains from admonishing his juniors, it actually creates discomfort among them. Rohit, known for his meme-famous reactions to fielding blunders, has long balanced sternness with warmth—a combination that teammates have grown fond of.
Jaiswal explained that Rohit’s reprimands are rarely harsh and almost always laced with humour and care, making young players feel valued rather than intimidated. According to him, the absence of such reactions raises doubts and anxiety. “If Rohit bhai isn’t scolding, it feels like something’s wrong. You start thinking—did he feel bad about my action?” he said, highlighting how deeply Rohit’s guidance is woven into the team’s culture.
The young opener also reflected on the invaluable influence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the dressing room. Their presence, he noted, lifts the morale of the side as they frequently share tactical insights and lessons from their own early careers. Jaiswal described their approachability and intensity as a source of continuous inspiration, helping youngsters understand how to navigate pressure and avoid avoidable mistakes.

Recalling his maiden ODI century in Visakhapatnam, Jaiswal said both Rohit and Kohli played crucial roles in shaping his mindset during the innings. He shared that Rohit advised him to stay calm and take his time while the senior batter took on riskier strokes. Kohli, meanwhile, provided small, manageable targets to maintain focus. Jaiswal revealed that this hundred felt as emotionally significant as his memorable Test ton at The Oval.
When asked about his prospects for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Jaiswal remained diplomatic, saying he prefers to focus on improving his game and will wait patiently for his opportunity. Yet, he expressed confidence about the possibility of captaining India someday, admitting that leading the national side would be a dream come true if the chance ever arrives.
