West Indies captain Roston Chase dedicated his team's memorable 90-run victory over Pakistan in the first Test to legendary all-rounder Sir Garfield Sobers, saying the triumph was a fitting tribute on what would have been the cricket icon's 90th birthday. Speaking after the match, Chase described Sobers as an inspiration to every player in the West Indies dressing room and said the coincidence of winning by 90 runs on his 90th birth anniversary made the occasion even more special.

In a video shared by Cricket West Indies, Chase said the team had discussed making the victory meaningful in honour of the late legend. He noted that Sobers had achieved almost everything possible in international cricket and remained a symbol of excellence for generations of West Indies players. Chase expressed hope that the team's performance would have made the legendary cricketer proud and said he believed Sobers would be "smiling" on the side after the victory.

Sir Garfield Sobers, who passed away on July 17, represented the West Indies in 93 Test matches between 1954 and 1974. Widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in cricket history, he scored 8,032 Test runs at an average of 57.78, including 26 centuries, and also claimed 235 wickets during his illustrious international career. His achievements continue to rank among the finest in the history of the sport.

West Indies secured the first Test by 90 runs, dismissing Pakistan for 120 while defending a target of 211. Fast bowler Jayden Seales starred with a five-wicket haul as the hosts wrapped up the victory to take an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The result also handed Pakistan their eighth consecutive away Test defeat, extending a difficult run on foreign soil.

Pakistan's Babar Azam fought with a half-century but received little support from the rest of the batting line-up. Captain Shan Masood, who was carrying a fractured finger, struggled to make an impact as wickets fell regularly at the other end. West Indies maintained pressure throughout the final innings, with Seales leading an impressive bowling effort to seal the win.

With the series already decided, attention now turns to the second and final Test, which is scheduled to begin in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on August 2. West Indies will aim to complete a series sweep, while Pakistan will look to recover and avoid another defeat as both teams conclude the Test series.
