Indian women’s cricket star Veda Krishnamurthy has announced her retirement from professional cricket, bringing an end to a passionate journey that began in the small town of Kadur and took her to international glory.
The 32-year-old batter, who played 48 ODIs and 76 T20Is for India, shared an emotional message on social media, saying, “It’s time to say goodbye to playing, but not to the game. Always for India. Always for the team.”
Veda, known for her fearless batting and sharp fielding, was a key part of India’s 2017 World Cup squad that reached the final. She last played for India in the 2020 T20 World Cup final and for Gujarat Giants in the WPL.
Despite personal tragedies during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the loss of her mother and sister, Veda remained a symbol of resilience and spirit.
She hinted at continuing her involvement in cricket, possibly through commentary or mentoring. As she steps away from the field, Veda leaves behind a legacy of grit, flair, and pride in wearing the Indian jersey.
