Malaysia Under-19 captain Deeaz Patro has issued a bold challenge to India's teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi ahead of their final group-stage clash in the ACC Men's U-19 Asia Cup 2025. Patro declared that his bowlers have devised specific strategies to "trap" the 14-year-old left-hander, aiming to prevent him from dominating as he did earlier in the tournament. The match, set for December 16 at The Sevens Stadium, adds intrigue to an otherwise one-sided encounter, with India already assured of a semifinal spot.
Suryavanshi burst onto the scene with a blistering 171 off 95 balls against hosts UAE in India's opening game, propelling his side to a record 433/6 and a 234-run victory. However, he managed only 5 runs against Pakistan, where India still secured a comfortable win. Malaysia, having suffered heavy defeats to Pakistan and the UAE, is out of semifinal contention but remains motivated to upset the favourites and gain valuable experience against top-tier opposition.
Patro, acknowledging Suryavanshi's talent as a "rising star", emphasised his team's preparation in an exclusive interview. "We have planned strategies to trap him using our best bowlers," he stated, highlighting the tactical approach despite Malaysia's underdog status. Vice-captain Muhammad Aalif echoed the excitement, expressing admiration for Indian players while looking forward to the challenge.
