India shattered records in the U19 World Cup final as 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a historic innings to propel his team to a massive total of 411/9 against England on Friday. Suryavanshi’s 80-ball 175, featuring 15 sixes and an equal number of fours, not only set the record for the highest individual score in a U19 World Cup final but also helped India post the highest team total in a summit clash in tournament history.
The young prodigy reached his century in just 55 balls, becoming the second-fastest centurion in U19 World Cup history. He then raced to 150 off just 71 balls, breaking the previous record of 98 balls set by England’s Ben Mayes earlier in the tournament. With 150 of his runs coming in boundaries, Suryavanshi toyed with the English bowling attack and dominated the Harare Sports Club pitch with an array of attacking shots.
Suryavanshi’s 15 sixes in the innings also made him the first player to hit 15 maximums in a Youth ODI, surpassing his own previous record of 14 sixes against the UAE in December 2025 at ICCA Dubai. By the end of the innings, he had accumulated a total of 22 sixes in the tournament, overtaking South Africa’s Dewald Brevis, who had held the previous record of 18 sixes since 2022. He also became the youngest centurion in U19 World Cup history.

The innings put India in an unassailable position, with the team’s run rate hovering around 10 per over at the halfway stage, projecting a total of 500 at one point. Suryavanshi shared a 142-run partnership with skipper Ayush Mhatre, who scored 53 off 51 balls, before departing in the 26th over attempting an ambitious scoop off Manny Lumsden. England’s fielders, including wicketkeeper Thomas Rew, applauded the extraordinary innings as Suryavanshi walked off.
After Suryavanshi’s dismissal, contributions from Abhigyan Kundu (40 off 31 balls), Vedant Trivedi (32 off 36), Vihaan Malhotra (30 off 36), and Kanishk Chouhan (37 off 20) ensured India maintained a dominant position. Despite some late resistance, England was unable to challenge India’s commanding total.
Suryavanshi’s record-breaking performance has been hailed as one of the most dominant individual innings in U19 World Cup history, highlighting the prodigy’s remarkable talent and heralding a bright future for Indian cricket.
