Suryakumar Yadav’s Witty India captain Suryakumar Yadav left the press room in stitches with a trademark humorous response during a post-match press conference following India’s victory over Oman in the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 on September 19 in Abu Dhabi. When a reporter suggested the tournament was nearing its “business end”, Suryakumar quipped, “Arre dada, abhi to chalu hua hai yaar, business end kaise ho gaya?” (The tournament just started; how is it the business end already?). India, undefeated with three wins in the group stage, now faces Pakistan in a high-stakes Super 4s match on September 21 at Dubai International Stadium.
India’s dominant group stage included a seven-wicket win over Pakistan on September 14, where Suryakumar’s unbeaten 47 off 37 balls led a comfortable chase of 128 in 15.5 overs. The victory, marred by Pakistan’s controversial post-match handshake snub, marked India’s eighth win in the last nine T20Is against their rivals, with the chasing side prevailing in all but one—a T20 World Cup match in New York in 2024 where India won batting first. Suryakumar emphasised a fresh approach, stating, “We want to follow the good habits from the last 2-3 games and take one game at a time.”
Suryakumar expressed confidence in India’s preparations under coach Gautam Gambhir, highlighting the team’s focus on starting “from scratch” despite their earlier success against Pakistan. “Whoever plays well will win the game,” he said, downplaying any edge from past victories. The 2025 T20 Asia Cup, hosted by the United Arab Emirates due to regional tensions, has seen India excel, while Pakistan, coached by Mike Hesson, narrowly qualified for the Super 4s after defending 146 against the UAE.

The upcoming clash, critical for both teams’ semifinal hopes, carries added weight after Pakistan’s earlier loss and off-field tensions. With 50,000 fans expected in Dubai, India aims to maintain their unbeaten run, while Pakistan, backed by motivational speaker Dr Raheel Karim, seeks redemption. Suryakumar’s light-hearted yet focused demeanour sets the tone for a fiercely contested encounter.
