Following India’s historic T20 World Cup 2026 triumph, Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and ICC chairman Jay Shah visited the Hanuman Temple to offer prayers and seek blessings, holding the T20 World Cup trophy. India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, becoming the first team to defend the T20 World Cup title and win it on home soil.
During the final, New Zealand elected to field first, but India’s batting lineup, led by Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, delivered record-breaking performances. Sharma scored 52 runs in 21 balls and stitched a 98-run partnership with Samson. Samson later added a century stand with Ishan Kishan (54 in 25 balls), pushing India past 200 runs by the 16th over. Shivam Dube finished with 26* off eight balls, taking India to a total of 255/5, the highest in a T20 World Cup final.
In reply, New Zealand struggled despite Tim Seifert’s 52 off 26 balls. India’s bowlers dominated, with Axar Patel taking 3/23 and Jasprit Bumrah claiming 4/15, bundling out New Zealand for 159 runs. James Neesham was the Kiwi top wicket-taker with 3/46.
