Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal continued his prolific form in domestic cricket by achieving a historic milestone in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). The 25-year-old left-hander became the first batter in the tournament’s history to score more than 600 runs in three separate seasons, underlining his remarkable consistency in the List A format.
Padikkal added another impressive knock to his tally with a fluent 91 against Rajasthan at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad. Although he narrowly missed what would have been his fifth century of the season, the innings further strengthened his record-breaking campaign. He was dismissed by spinner Manav Suthar after dominating the opposition attack.
Across six innings this season, Padikkal has already amassed over 600 runs, adding to his earlier VHT hauls of 609 runs in the 2019–20 season and a massive 737 runs in the 2020–21 edition. Notably, his 2020–21 run featured four consecutive centuries, marking one of the most dominant individual performances in the tournament’s history.

Since making his List A debut for Karnataka in 2018, Padikkal has established himself as one of the most reliable performers in the format. He now has 13 centuries in just 34 List A innings, a strike rate of success matched by only a handful of Indian batters in domestic cricket.
Padikkal also boasts an exceptional List A average of 83.62 from 38 innings, the highest among batters with at least 2,000 runs in the format. This places him ahead of established names such as Ruturaj Gaikwad and even Virat Kohli in terms of batting average, highlighting the scale of his achievement.
Despite his outstanding domestic form, Padikkal was not included in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand starting January 11. With limited exposure at the national level so far, his continued dominance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy strengthens his case for future selection.
