The Janata Dal (Secular) on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, alleging widespread misuse of public funds in Karnataka and accusing the state leadership of turning the region into an “ATM” for the central party. The JD(S) specifically targeted AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala, calling him a “collection agent” for Congress.
In a post on social media platform X, the JD(S) suggested that Surjewala’s recent visit to Bengaluru coincided with the announcement of Assembly election dates in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Puducherry, and West Bengal. Party officials described him as a “super CM” of Karnataka, alleging that his trip was linked to mobilising funds for the central leadership.
The JD(S) also accused Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar and other state leaders of operating under instructions from the high command, effectively using Karnataka’s administration to collect funds. The party raised concerns over the Valmiki Corporation, claiming that large sums were siphoned off and used in elections in Telangana.

Senior JD(S) leader and Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, reiterated allegations of systemic corruption in Karnataka, claiming that contractors were charged commissions of up to 60 per cent for government projects. He further alleged a “transfer scam” that charged Rs 10 crore per posting and said a “rate card” exists for government positions, with funds being collected to finance elections in other states.
The JD(S) also criticised the state government for imposing higher taxes and rising prices on citizens, describing it as a “commission-driven government” and urging the public to remain vigilant. Party representatives warned that these practices undermined governance and diverted resources away from developmental priorities.
Surjewala is scheduled to meet Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah later on Friday. Political observers note that the accusations from JD(S) could intensify scrutiny of Karnataka’s governance and influence public discourse ahead of upcoming elections.
