The Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) announced its inaugural tour, set to commence on September 10, 2025, at Chandigarh Golf Club, with former Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh, its co-founder and brand ambassador, comparing its potential to transform golf to the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) revolutionary impact on cricket. Partnering with the Indian Golf Union (IGU) and the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI), the IGPL will feature a 10-event tour spanning multiple cities in India, as well as Sri Lanka and the UAE, concluding in December 2025.
The tour’s three-day, no-cut tournaments will include 48 professionals—36 men and 12 women—alongside top amateurs, totaling 54 participants per event. Key players include Gaganjeet Bhullar, Gaurav Ghei, Shiv Kapur, and SSP Chawrasia, with emerging talents like Kartik Singh and Ridhima Dilawari. Yuvraj emphasized the league’s role in nurturing young golfers, stating, “IGPL will give them a chance to be fearless and be the best in the world.” Drawing parallels with the IPL, he highlighted how the league alleviates financial burdens like travel and accommodation, allowing players to focus on performance, fostering grassroots talent, and potentially elevating Indian golf globally.
A significant partnership with the Asian Tour offers IGPL players pathways to international competition, including eligibility for the final stage of the Asian Tour’s qualifying school for the top four Order of Merit players and a British Open qualifying spot for the top non-exempt player. Cho Minn Thant, Asian Tour CEO, underscored the collaboration’s potential to open global opportunities. Yuvraj expressed ambitions for Indian golfers to compete on Asian, European, and PGA tours and win Olympic medals, envisioning IGPL as a catalyst for making golf a cultural staple in India.
