Lionel Messi has arrived in India to kick off his much-hyped GOAT India Tour 2025, sending fans into a frenzy and drawing unprecedented attention from both sports authorities and the state administration. The event, however, witnessed unexpected developments that led to heightened security and administrative intervention.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee closely monitored the situation and was reportedly close to reaching the venue when key changes to the event schedule were made. Acting swiftly, she sought detailed briefings from officials to ensure that all protocols and arrangements were being followed.
State Sports Minister Aroop Biswas was present at the stadium, coordinating with organisers amid the evolving situation. Senior police officers and top bureaucrats were also deployed on-site to manage security, crowd control, and logistical challenges surrounding the high-profile visit.

A closed-door meeting involving senior officials was convened to assess the circumstances that led to the disruption. Following this review, the Chief Minister ordered the formation of an enquiry committee to examine lapses, if any, in planning and execution.
Sources indicate that the committee will submit a detailed report after evaluating security preparedness, event management, and coordination between stakeholders. Despite the developments, authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring Messi’s India tour proceeds smoothly and safely in the coming days.
