In a sweeping operation, Manipur Police arrested 14 militants from banned outfits across six districts—Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, and Jiribam—within a 24-hour period, officials reported on Wednesday.
The detainees, linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), PREPAK, and Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (SOREPA), were involved in extortion targeting government employees, contractors, traders, and civilians.
The operation yielded a significant haul, including Rs 21.50 lakh in cash from a UNLF militant in Bishnupur, alongside arms, ammunition, and incriminating documents. Four militants each were apprehended in Imphal East and Thoubal, three in Tengnoupal, and one each in Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Jiribam.

Security forces also dismantled temporary shelters at a Village Volunteers’ training camp in Churachandpur’s Gelmol village.
In parallel, joint operations by the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and Manipur Police over the past week recovered 77 illegal arms—carbines, AK-series rifles, .303 light machine guns, INSAS rifles, sniper rifles, and pistols—along with IEDs, grenades, and war-like stores from seven districts.
These efforts underscore a robust campaign to curb militancy in Manipur, where ethnic violence since May 2023 has claimed over 260 lives. The recovered items have been handed over to police for further investigation, signaling a firm commitment to restoring peace in the strife-torn state.
