Manipur Police arrested four militants, including a woman, in separate operations over the last 24 hours, targeting extortion networks linked to banned outfits. The woman was apprehended for aiding the proscribed PREPAK (Pro) in extortion activities, shaking up local communities in Imphal.
In a parallel operation, security forces detained an active cadre of KYKL/SOREPA in Sawombung, Imphal East, while another member of RPF/PLA was caught during a search along Ngariyan Yairipok Road near Chingyang Lairembi Ima-Keithel. A third arrest nabbed a KCP (PWG) member from Kairang Village, all linked to extortion schemes.
Adding muscle to the crackdown, two operations uncovered significant arms hauls. In Churachandpur, forces seized a .22 rifle, a single-barrel gun, and two pompi grenades. Meanwhile, in Imphal East’s Pukhao Ahallup, a 9 mm SMG with three magazines, a double-barrel gun, a loaded .32 pistol, four hand grenades, and an array of explosives and ammunition were recovered along the western riverbank.
The arrests and recoveries highlight intensified efforts to curb insurgent activities amid ongoing tensions in Manipur. Security forces continue dominating vulnerable areas, signaling zero tolerance for extortion and violence. The swift operations have sparked cautious optimism among residents, though the shadow of militancy lingers.
