Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei praised his players for achieving what he described as a memorable milestone after the team's 0-0 draw against Belgium in the FIFA World Cup on Sunday. The result extended Iran's unbeaten start to the tournament and kept alive its hopes of reaching the knockout stage for the first time in the country's history. Speaking after the match in Los Angeles, Ghalenoei said the achievement would be remembered by future generations of Iranian football supporters.
Iran have collected two points from their opening two Group G matches after drawing 2-2 with New Zealand and holding Belgium to a goalless stalemate. The coach highlighted the difficult circumstances under which the team has been operating, including travel and visa-related restrictions that have complicated preparations throughout the tournament. Despite these challenges, Iran has remained competitive against higher-ranked opposition and continues to be in contention for qualification.
Ghalenoei revealed that the squad had limited time to prepare for the Belgium match because they were unable to travel early from their base camp in Mexico. According to the coach, the team had less than 16 hours available for training before taking the field. He said the demanding travel schedule and logistical obstacles made the players' performances even more impressive and demonstrated their commitment to representing the nation.

The Iranian coach also thanked supporters who attended the match, particularly members of the Iranian community who backed the team despite differing political views. While some spectators booed the Iranian national anthem before kickoff, many others vocally supported the players throughout the contest. Ghalenoei said the encouragement from fans provided additional motivation and energy for the squad during a challenging period.
Although Belgium played with ten men after defender Nathan Ngoy was sent off in the 66th minute, Ghalenoei admitted his side had been fortunate to avoid defeat against one of the world's strongest teams. He credited his players for their determination, saying they had competed with heart and resilience despite the difficult conditions. The coach stressed that few teams would have been able to cope with the circumstances Iran has faced during the competition.
Iran's attention now turns to a crucial final group-stage match against Egypt in Seattle. A positive result could secure a historic place in the knockout rounds. Midfielder Alireza Jahanbakhsh echoed his coach's sentiments, praising the team's spirit and recalling how Iran narrowly missed out on progression at the previous World Cup. He said the squad's immediate focus would be recovery and preparation as they seek to make history by advancing beyond the group stage.
