Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay is set to flag off the upcoming Le Mans Cup race at Silverstone, where actor and racing enthusiast Ajith Kumar will compete. The development has attracted considerable attention because of the long-perceived rivalry between the fan bases of the two Tamil cinema stars, who have been leading figures in the industry for more than three decades.
The official social media accounts of the Le Mans Cup announced that Vijay had been invited to wave the ceremonial green flag at the Silverstone round. The organisers said the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister would join the event to support Indian drivers competing in the United Kingdom and officially start the race in front of a 44-car grid. The race is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
Ajith, meanwhile, has continued his involvement in motorsport and is set to compete at the event. Ajith Racing confirmed his participation by sharing an update from the Silverstone track. The team highlighted the importance of walking the circuit and studying its kerbs, cambers and braking zones before the race, underlining the preparation involved in the competition.

The Vijay-Ajith development has particularly surprised fans because supporters of the two actors have been involved in rivalries for years, both online and offline. Rival groups have historically used terms such as “Anils” and “Aamais” to refer to Vijay and Ajith fans respectively. The announcement prompted many fans to reflect on the decades of competition between the two fan bases.
Several fans welcomed the prospect of Vijay and Ajith being associated with the same sporting event, describing it as a moment that could help put years of rivalry aside. Social media reactions ranged from jokes about fans who had spent years arguing over the stars to enthusiastic comments celebrating what some described as an unexpected coming together of the two groups.
Vijay and Ajith have followed markedly different paths in recent years, with Vijay entering politics and becoming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, while Ajith has continued to pursue his passion for motor racing alongside his acting career. Their association at Silverstone has therefore drawn attention beyond the race itself, particularly among Tamil cinema followers who have witnessed the intense rivalry surrounding the two stars for decades.
