Bangladesh Test Cricketer Nayeem Hasan has alleged that he was harassed and physically assaulted by members of a law enforcement agency in his hometown of Chattogram on Friday night following his return from domestic cricket duty, prompting an official investigation by local police authorities. According to Nayeem, the incident occurred around 11:25 PM when he was travelling in a CNG autorickshaw after arriving from Dhaka, where he had participated in Prime Bank Cricket Club’s final match in the Dhaka Premier League.

He said police personnel intercepted the vehicle near the Lalkhan Bazar flyover and checked the driver’s documents. The off-spinner alleged that the situation escalated despite his cooperation. He stated that he offered to allow inspection of his belongings, but claimed he was instead physically handled by officers. “I told the police, ‘If necessary, you can check my bag,’ but they grabbed me by the throat and said, ‘Get in the car,’” he was quoted as saying in reports.

Nayeem further alleged that he was pushed, beaten, and verbally abused during the incident. He also claimed that his status as a national cricketer did not initially influence the officers’ conduct, adding that the situation changed only after his identity was confirmed through phone calls made later during the episode.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Amirul Islam confirmed that an inquiry had been initiated into the allegations and assured that appropriate action would be taken if any officers were found responsible. He stated that the police maintain a strict protocol and emphasized a “zero tolerance” approach toward misconduct, while assuring that justice would be ensured.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also expressed concern over the incident, condemning the reported treatment of the player and calling for a thorough and impartial investigation. The board said it has been in contact with Nayeem Hasan and his family, and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare, dignity, and rights of national team players while monitoring developments closely.
