Punjab Police have implemented an extensive security operation ahead of the India vs South Africa T20 International scheduled for tonight at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, SAS Nagar. Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla confirmed that a 3,000-strong security force has been deployed to ensure smooth crowd management and safety for the high-stakes fixture. The large-scale deployment underscores the significant turnout expected at the 35,000-capacity venue.
The security arrangement will be commanded by a senior leadership team comprising one Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and two Assistant Inspectors General (AIG). Supporting them will be around 80 Superintendents of Police (SPs), deputy-level officers, and other gazetted personnel. This multilayered structure is designed to provide swift response capabilities, manage crowd flow, and maintain order in and around the stadium throughout the event.
Rupnagar Range DIG Nanak Singh and SAS Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans will oversee the overall security and traffic coordination. Their teams have been conducting multiple on-ground assessments to ensure all entry and exit points, checkpoints, and public areas remain fully under control. Additional personnel have been assigned to emergency response units, rapid reaction teams, and anti-sabotage squads.

To avoid traffic congestion near the stadium, authorities have issued detailed advisories including designated diversion routes and controlled access points for spectators. Police have urged attendees to follow traffic instructions, arrive early, and cooperate with the security staff to ensure timely entry into the match. Special parking zones have also been earmarked to streamline movement and prevent bottlenecks in the surrounding residential and commercial areas.
The heightened security measures reflect the increasing scale and popularity of international cricket matches hosted at the Mullanpur facility. With a massive crowd expected and the match holding significant competitive importance, authorities are focused on delivering a safe, seamless, and well-organized viewing experience for fans. Police officials reiterated that all necessary precautions are in place, promising a secure environment for the thrilling India–South Africa showdown.
