Uttar Pradesh ministers have criticised Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav over his recent social media post referring to “403” seats, accusing the opposition party of attempting to create confusion among voters. Yadav had written on X, “Now our eyes are not on three, but on 403,” amid speculation surrounding the SP’s strategy for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the SP frequently targets constitutional institutions when faced with electoral setbacks. He also expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would return to power in Uttar Pradesh with a strong mandate in the 2027 Assembly elections. Pathak argued that the Opposition was aware of the BJP’s electoral position in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya predicted that the BJP would secure 11 Legislative Council seats and eight Rajya Sabha seats. Referring to the SP’s 2022 Assembly election performance, Maurya questioned whether the party would be able to reach even 50 seats in the next major electoral contest. Minister and Nishad Party chief Sanjay Nishad also criticised Yadav, claiming that his political predictions had often been followed by contrasting outcomes.

Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh said Akhilesh Yadav and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi were engaged in political differences with each other. He argued that the two leaders should first resolve their differences before the BJP takes on whoever emerges stronger. Minister Danish Azad Ansari also criticised the SP’s claims, alleging that the party had repeatedly made ambitious political projections without producing the results it had promised.
Minister Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary accused the SP and other opposition parties of attempting to create confusion despite lacking the numbers required for their political objectives. He also alleged that divisions existed among SP legislators. Chaudhary further criticised the party’s interpretation of the PDA alliance, while asserting that the Yogi Adityanath-led government had worked for the development of Uttar Pradesh.
Minister of State Rajni Tiwari also accused the Opposition of moving away from previous statements and positions. The remarks from the BJP-led government came as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with the SP’s reference to all 403 Assembly seats drawing particular attention from ruling party leaders.
