Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Secondary Education Gulabo Devi narrowly escaped serious harm on Tuesday when her convoy was involved in a pile-up on National Highway-9 near the Chhijarsi toll plaza in Hapur. The afternoon incident occurred as the convoy traveled from Delhi to Amroha, with sudden braking by vehicles ahead triggering a chain reaction.
“Three vehicles stopped abruptly, causing the escort vehicle and the minister’s car to collide,” a police official stated. Gulabo Devi, 65, and her driver Satveer sustained minor injuries, primarily to the head and arm, respectively. Both were promptly taken to Rama Hospital, where they received treatment and were discharged. The convoy resumed its journey to Amroha later that day.
Hapur District Magistrate Abhishek Pandey and Superintendent of Police Kunwar Gyananjay Singh inspected the site and visited the hospital to assess the minister’s condition. Police have detained the drivers responsible for the sudden braking and are investigating the cause, with CCTV footage from the toll plaza under review. The incident, which damaged multiple vehicles, underscores ongoing concerns about highway safety during high-profile travel.
