Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed police authorities to take strict action against those involved in post-poll violence reported after the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election results were declared. The incidents occurred across several parts of the state following the announcement of results on April 17, prompting a high-level security review.
The elections for the 30-member TTAADC were held on April 12, with the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) retaining control of the autonomous body for a second consecutive term. The council, which governs nearly 70 per cent of Tripura’s geographical area, is considered the second most important constitutional institution in the state after the legislative assembly.
After meeting BJP workers affected by the violence at a hostel in Agartala, the Chief Minister stated that intimidation and political violence would not be tolerated. He announced that he would convene a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and other senior officials to assess the situation and coordinate law-and-order measures across affected areas.

Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, reiterated that the state government remains committed to maintaining peace and enforcing the rule of law. He noted that while efforts have been made since the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections to reduce political vendetta, certain groups were still engaging in violent activities. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt public order.
As part of the government’s response, Saha also announced rehabilitation measures for affected families. Under the Tripura Recovery of Damages to Public Property Act, 2021, authorities will identify individuals responsible for property damage and recover compensation from them. He further stated that financial assistance would be provided to victims through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
In a social media update, the Chief Minister said that 258 families would receive support in the first phase, with an allocation of Rs 64.50 lakh approved for relief and assistance. Meanwhile, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee claimed that several party workers had been displaced due to violence and that party leaders had visited relief shelters to assure support and safety.
Following the election results, TMP leader Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma also urged restraint among party workers, calling for peace and unity. The TTAADC, which remains a key political institution in Tripura, continues to play a central role in governance and tribal administration across the state.
