The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls began across Telangana on Thursday, with nearly 36,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) deployed to carry out a state-wide house-to-house enumeration exercise. According to election officials, the verification drive will continue until July 24 as part of the Election Commission of India's efforts to update and verify the state's voter database. The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on July 31, while the final electoral roll will be released on October 1 after objections are examined and hearings are completed.
Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy said the exercise would be conducted transparently and in accordance with the Election Commission's prescribed guidelines. Addressing concerns raised by some political parties over the possible deletion of genuine voters, he clarified that the Commission has no intention of removing valid electors arbitrarily. He added that eligible voters should not be concerned, though completing the entire revision process within the stipulated timeline would be the administration's biggest challenge.
To ensure smooth implementation of the revision exercise, more than 3,500 supervisors have been assigned to oversee the work of the Booth Level Officers, while over 1,000 senior officials will monitor the process at higher administrative levels. During their visits, BLOs will distribute enumeration forms to households, verify voter details and assist residents in completing the required documentation wherever necessary to facilitate accurate electoral registration.

Official sources said Telangana has more than 3.38 crore registered voters as per 2025 records. Of these, around 2.38 crore electors had already been mapped by June 20, while nearly 90 lakh voter records were identified as having various anomalies requiring verification. The revision exercise is intended to correct such discrepancies and ensure that the electoral rolls accurately reflect eligible voters before future elections.
In addition to the polling officials, nearly 49,000 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) representing political parties have also been trained to assist in the enumeration process. Their role includes coordinating with election officials and helping facilitate voter verification at the grassroots level. The Election Commission expects the combined efforts of officials and agents to improve the accuracy and transparency of the revision exercise across the state.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reviewed the voter revision campaign with party leaders through a virtual meeting on Wednesday. He instructed ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly and constituency in-charges to remain vigilant throughout the process amid reports of possible deletion of genuine voters' names. The Chief Minister also warned that strict action would be taken against any party leader found violating the organisation's directions related to the Special Intensive Revision campaign.
