The India-Pakistan rivalry is set to return to the World Championship of Legends calendar, with India Champions scheduled to face Pakistan Champions in the league stage of the 2026 edition. The match is slated for October 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with play scheduled to begin at 7.30pm local time, or 9pm IST. However, after two scheduled meetings between the teams were abandoned during the 2025 tournament, questions are already being raised over whether the contest will actually take place.
The third edition of the WCL will be held in the United Arab Emirates from October 3 to 18. India Champions and Pakistan Champions were also drawn against each other twice in the previous edition, but neither match was played. The first league-stage fixture at Edgbaston was called off after several Indian players expressed unwillingness to face Pakistan amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
The controversy continued when the two teams were scheduled to meet again in the semi-finals. Indian players once again declined to participate, leading to the knockout match being abandoned without a ball being bowled. Pakistan Champions advanced directly to the final as a result. Former India batter Shikhar Dhawan was among the most vocal Indian players on the issue, while other prominent members of the India Champions squad also opposed taking part in the fixtures.

The 2026 scheduling has therefore revived memories of last year’s double no-show. Although the India-Pakistan fixture remains one of the tournament’s biggest commercial attractions, its inclusion on the calendar does not necessarily guarantee that the teams will take the field. The build-up could once again focus as much on player availability and political sensitivities as it does on the cricket itself.
India Champions will begin their campaign against Australia Champions in Sharjah on October 3 before facing England Champions on October 4. They will meet South Africa Champions on October 6 and then travel to Dubai for the Pakistan fixture on October 10. India will face Bangladesh Champions in Dubai on October 11 before returning to Sharjah to play West Indies Champions on October 13. The semi-finals are scheduled for October 16, while the final will be held in Sharjah on October 18.
The 2026 tournament will feature Bangladesh Champions alongside India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa and West Indies Champions, with matches divided between Dubai and Sharjah. Despite the strong appeal of another India-Pakistan contest, the events of 2025 mean that the October 10 fixture carries uncertainty well before the teams arrive in the UAE. The organisers have created the stage for the rivalry to resume, but whether the players finally walk out remains the central question.
