A long-pending cabinet expansion in Karnataka is expected to gain momentum early next month, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah likely to visit New Delhi around May 6 to seek approval from the party high command. The visit comes amid growing speculation over a possible leadership reshuffle within the state government and increasing political activity involving senior Congress leaders.
According to political sources, the visit is being planned after the declaration of assembly election results in four states and a Union Territory. The timing is seen as significant, as several key decisions regarding cabinet restructuring are expected to be finalised soon thereafter. The expansion exercise has reportedly been under discussion for several months, with mounting pressure from within the state unit of the party for representation and balance.
The proposed reshuffle is being viewed as part of a broader organisational realignment within the Indian National Congress in Karnataka. Senior leaders have been frequently travelling to Delhi in recent weeks, signalling that consultations with the central leadership are intensifying. Party insiders suggest that decisions are being carefully evaluated to maintain regional, caste, and political balance within the cabinet.

In a related development, Karnataka minister Satish Jarkiholi is reported to have expressed interest in taking over as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). His willingness has added another layer to the ongoing political discussions, as the party weighs leadership roles at both organisational and government levels. The final decision is expected to rest with the central leadership.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA K. N. Rajanna stated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has advised all ministers to abide by the decisions of the party high command. Rajanna said that leadership positions are not permanent and may change based on party decisions. He added that Siddaramaiah himself is prepared to continue or step aside depending on what the leadership, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, decides. Political observers note that the upcoming developments could shape both the administrative structure and internal dynamics of the Congress government in Karnataka. The final outcome of the cabinet expansion and possible organisational changes is expected after consultations in Delhi in the coming weeks.
