The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has launched a sharp political attack on former minister and MLA Bacchu Kadu, accusing him of opportunism following his recent alignment with the Eknath Shinde-led faction. The criticism was published in the party’s mouthpiece Saamana, which described Kadu’s political moves as symbolic of what it called Maharashtra’s “theatrical politics.”
According to the editorial, Kadu’s recent association with the Shinde faction was portrayed as a staged “Samadhi” or ritual-like surrender of political independence. It alleged that his shift was rewarded with a nomination to the Legislative Council (MLC), suggesting that political benefits followed his change in allegiance. The piece further claimed that Kadu’s actions reflected a pattern of switching sides based on personal political survival rather than ideological commitment.
Tracing his political journey, Saamana said Kadu began as a social activist and later joined Shiv Sena before parting ways after being denied a party ticket. It noted that he contested elections independently and later served as a minister in the Uddhav Thackeray-led government. The editorial further stated that he later joined the rebel faction during the party split, only to again change position when political opportunities shifted.

The publication also highlighted what it described as contradictions in Kadu’s public statements, pointing to his earlier remarks rejecting any alliance formed merely for securing an MLA position. It contrasted this with his later decision to align with the Shinde group, calling it an example of political inconsistency and opportunism.
The editorial extended its criticism to broader political realignments in Maharashtra, suggesting that major parties are strategically absorbing or sidelining smaller allies ahead of future elections. It also referred to ongoing rivalries in the Amravati region and described them as politically motivated performances rather than genuine ideological conflicts.
Concluding its remarks, Saamana alleged that such political shifts reflect a decline in public service values, arguing that while leaders secure positions and influence, issues faced by farmers, widows, and persons with disabilities remain unresolved. The piece framed Kadu’s move as part of a larger pattern of instability and opportunism in state politics.
