Congress general secretary Sachin Pilot launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, alleging that it is shielding the Election Commission of India (ECI) from addressing serious allegations of voter list irregularities. Speaking to reporters in Jaipur, the former Rajasthan deputy chief minister criticized the BJP for defending the poll body instead of allowing it to independently respond to concerns raised by Congress and its Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi.
Pilot emphasized the ECI’s constitutional and moral obligation to ensure the integrity of every vote, accusing the BJP of interfering in its operations. “The government should not interfere. The Election Commission has a constitutional and moral responsibility to ensure that every vote is genuine and no manipulation takes place,” he stated. He alleged that the BJP is targeting opposition leaders to deflect from investigating claims of voter fraud, citing the detention of over 200 MPs, including Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, during a protest march to the ECI headquarters.
The Congress leader claimed that thousands of votes in several constituencies were deliberately deleted or manipulated, with fake votes and addresses added to disenfranchise genuine voters. “Tampering with the voter list is a serious crime,” Pilot asserted, pointing to documented evidence presented by his party. He also questioned the ECI’s silence following Gandhi’s allegations and raised concerns about the unexplained removal of a former Chief Justice of India from an election-related panel, further fueling suspicions of compromised independence.

“Why is the EC not responding? Why is the BJP speaking on EC’s behalf? The poll body is the soul of democracy, and its transparency and independence must be protected,” Pilot urged. He reiterated that Congress is not making baseless accusations but is demanding an impartial investigation to restore trust in the electoral process. The party, he affirmed, will continue its nationwide campaign to highlight these irregularities and safeguard democratic principles.
