NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar, grandnephew of Sharad Pawar, fiercely criticized the Maharashtra government under the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance for controversies involving its ministers and their selective use of Hindutva. Addressing party workers, the Karjat-Jamkhed MLA accused ministers of prioritizing personal gain over public welfare, citing Maharashtra Minister Sandipan Bhumre’s alleged role in expediting a liquor license transfer in six hours. “Common citizens visit government offices repeatedly for small issues, yet a minister’s work is done instantly,” Pawar remarked, questioning the fairness of governance.
Pawar also highlighted the Salar Jung land controversy, alleging Bhumre’s driver acquired land worth Rs 160 crore, sarcastically calling him “the richest driver in the world.” Earlier, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule promised a probe into the land case, signaling internal scrutiny within the Mahayuti coalition. Pawar’s allegations echo his earlier criticisms, including a recent video he shared on X accusing Minister Meghana Bordikar of threatening to slap a village official, which Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis downplayed.
Turning to Hindutva, Pawar challenged the BJP’s narrative, claiming, “They speak of Hindutva, which is 50–60 years old, but we conserve Hindu culture, thousands of years old, that teaches humanity.” He accused the ruling alliance of using Hindutva as a vote-bank tactic while ignoring pressing issues like farmer suicides—eight daily, mostly Hindu—and the struggles of Hindu women and unemployed youth. “Their Hindutva is just for votes,” Pawar charged, positioning NCP (SP) as the true guardian of inclusive Hindu values. Posts on X show mixed reactions, with some praising Pawar’s boldness and others questioning his motives amid the NCP’s 2023 split.
