A shocking chain of events in Dehradun led to the death of retired Army officer Mukesh Kumar Joshi, who was struck by a stray bullet during a morning walk, hours after a heated altercation at a nightclub spiralled into violence. The incident has raised serious concerns about public safety and the consequences of unchecked disputes escalating into armed confrontations.
According to police, the conflict began late at night at a nightclub named Zen-G, where an argument broke out between Aditya Chaudhary and Mohit Agarwal, a staff member, over a bill payment. What initially appeared to be a minor disagreement quickly intensified, with tensions rising between the two sides. The situation further worsened when Mohit and other staff allegedly vandalised Chaudhary’s newly purchased Scorpio vehicle, smashing its windows.
Enraged by the incident, Chaudhary reportedly left the club but waited nearby with his associates to confront the staff members. In the early hours of the morning, when Mohit and others departed in a Fortuner vehicle, Chaudhary and his group began पीछा (chasing) them through the streets. The confrontation soon escalated into a dangerous pursuit, setting the stage for a violent clash.

During the chase, one of Chaudhary’s associates, Shantanu Tyagi, allegedly opened fire at the Fortuner in an attempt to stop the vehicle. This act triggered a retaliatory exchange of gunfire between the two groups, turning the situation into a full-blown shootout. Amid this chaos, a stray bullet tragically hit Brigadier Joshi, who was out for his routine morning walk with friends, leaving him critically injured. He later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
The violence did not end there. The Fortuner lost control during the incident and crashed into a roadside tree, after which Chaudhary’s group reportedly assaulted the occupants of the vehicle, including Rohit Kumar and Akhlaq. Following the attack, the accused abandoned their Scorpio in a forested area along Thano Road and fled using different routes to evade capture.
Police launched an immediate investigation after receiving information about the incident. Initially, those involved attempted to mislead authorities by claiming it was a road rage case. However, during interrogation, they admitted to carrying weapons and participating in the firing. Law enforcement officials later recovered the abandoned vehicle, along with two country-made pistols, live cartridges, and spent shells.
So far, four individuals, including Aditya Chaudhary, nightclub owner Sandeep Kumar, Rohit Kumar, and Akhlaq, have been arrested in connection with the case. Authorities have stated that further investigation is ongoing to establish the full sequence of events and ensure accountability for the tragic loss of an innocent life.
