Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of attempting to manipulate the upcoming Bihar assembly elections by “stealing votes” through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, during a rally in Araria on August 24, 2025.
Addressing supporters as part of the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha criticized the BJP-led central government for allegedly undermining democratic processes and limiting employment opportunities for the poor and youth.
“The Narendra Modi government, after privatizing public sector units, now wants to steal votes of the poor through the SIR with the help of the Election Commission,” Gandhi alleged. He vowed that the INDIA bloc would fiercely oppose these efforts, asserting, “The SIR is anti-constitutional.
People of Bihar will give a befitting reply to the BJP and its allies in the assembly polls.” Gandhi emphasized that the Constitution guarantees equal rights for all citizens, framing the SIR as a threat to democratic fairness.
The 1,300-km ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ launched on August 17 from Sasaram, is set to cover over 20 districts in 16 days, culminating in a rally in Patna on September 1. The campaign aims to mobilize voters and highlight issues of electoral integrity and socio-economic equity ahead of the elections.
