Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, a former Congress member turned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, has ignited a political firestorm by alleging that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi once shouted at his mother, Sonia Gandhi, in the presence of Rane’s father, former Goa Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane. The claim, made amid controversy over an AI-generated video posted by Bihar Congress featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother, Heeraben Modi, has intensified the ongoing feud between the BJP and Congress.
Rane, whose father served as Goa’s Chief Minister for a record seven terms, took to X to condemn the Congress, stating, “The recent AI video circulated by Bihar Congress dragging Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s late mother is a shameful act. It reflects the complete collapse of values within the Congress party.” He further claimed, “I still recall my father telling me how Rahul Gandhi once shouted at his own mother in front of him. If that’s the respect he shows to his own mother at home, what can India expect from the Congress party?” Rane argued that such actions reflect Congress’s pattern of disrespecting “Mahila and Maatru Shakti” (women and maternal honor), urging political battles to focus on vision and governance rather than personal attacks.
The BJP has launched a scathing offensive against Congress following the September 10 Bihar Congress post, which featured an AI-generated video depicting Heeraben Modi criticizing the Prime Minister’s politics in poll-bound Bihar. BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain condemned the video, referencing earlier expletives used against Heeraben from a Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) campaign stage in Darbhanga. “Bihar and India will not tolerate this insult. The Congress will pay for this in the elections,” Hussain warned.

Congress, in response, defended the video, with leader Pawan Khera asserting, “It is the duty of parents to educate their children. She is only educating her child, and if the child thinks that it is disrespectful towards him, it is his headache.” The party maintains that the video did not disrespect Heeraben Modi.
The controversy, rooted in a prior incident during the RJD-Congress ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga, has heightened political tensions as Bihar approaches assembly elections. Rane’s allegations against Rahul Gandhi, coupled with the BJP’s criticism of Congress’s tactics, underscore the deepening divide between the ruling party and the opposition, with personal and ethical accusations dominating the discourse.
